The main MRC database consists of two related files - samples and holes - and requires the program 4th Dimension, which is available free of charge from the publisher -ACI- for academic use.  You will need a licence number from the company to run the program.  Versions are available for both Mac and PC.  

The text file consists of only the sample list, and can be imported into most spreadsheets or word processing programs.  New versions are occasionally made by exporting from the main database.
